GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

There are so many cases that are happening in this world. The topic I would like to talk about is the Muslim fanatic case. It has been a fright to the world because of the terrorist around us. It is suspected that most of the terrorist that affects us are part from a Muslim group. These terrorist kill people just because of religion race. They think that non Muslim people are not acceptable and think that if they kill non Muslim people the killer will please God and for sure make their way to Heaven. These people I called them Muslim fanatic. They way of thinking is brutal and not modern. They don’t adjust their perspective based on the modern growth. I chose this topic because I am a Muslim myself. I believe that God doesn’t want us to kill each others; instead we should make peace in this world. This doesn’t mean that I dislike Muslim. By showing this opinion; I disagree with the way Muslim fanatic thinks, that could danger other people.
But on another perspective, maybe those people are born in a community like that and so we couldn’t blame on them all the way. The people that Muslim was first introduced are barbarian people; this is why Muslim is introduced to them. Different from Christianity, it is introduced to educational people. Muslim wasn’t introduced to educational people; instead they are introduced to women, and slaves. Maybe this is why some Muslim people think in an old way, and that is something we can’t blame completely.
I live in a family community that is open minded, I go to a Christian school, so I see the differences in Muslim. But the country’s majority religion is Muslim. It depends on the individuals, if they are open and modern minded then it helps the country’s growth. But now they are still soap operas that are Muslim based and those soap operas sometimes shows violence and old ways of thinking that doesn’t help educate the country, they only think of the ratings and the money it produced.

#3 Subject: Physics

For the national program, we are required to do a mid semester test. The subjects are chosen by the teachers. For this test I picked the lowest subject which is physics. On this test I got only 22 out of 100. My score got the lowest out of everybody in my class. The physics test includes topics such as vectors, gravity, elasticity and energy.
The test had 15 multiple choices questions and 5 essays. The physics test was held on the very first day of the mid semester test week.
What distinguishes this piece f evidence is the score. It was so bad that I am very embarrass to show it to my parents. It is strange for me because physics also involves math equations, but my math tests always get good score. I believe I am not prepared at all for this test. Even though the night before the test I studied really hard, I wasn’t able to memorize the formulas and I don’t understand all the topics that were given. In result, I wasn’t able to answer most of the questions. It was so hard and I wasn’t able to remember anything that I’ve studied the night before it.
Because of this situation, I am eager to study hard and pay more attention in class. I really have to increase my scores because it is below average and I felt that this is the result for not being focus in class. I was really shocked when I saw the score. I tried to negotiate with the teacher and asked him if I could do any extra credit to improve my score. So I did a report from a physics book that I read.

#2 Subject: Chemistry

When I attend year 11 for the first time, I attend a chemistry class, which is weird for me because in gr.10 we only had science for our subject. Science includes Physics, Chemistry and Biology. We are asked to make a project in Chemistry related to the environment. My group consists of Tia, Edgar and Jojo. Our group had this idea of encouraging people to use Lavender as mosquito repellant instead of the liquid mosquito repellant that consist of poison that could harm the environment. For this project, we as a group did a power point presentation that shows where to buy and how to use the lavender as a safer mosquito repellant. We made pictures using Photoshop and convert it into a jpeg form and copied it to power point. We present the power point at Indonesian week. For the people to recognize lavender we bought the plant and place it on a table next to our presentation. Our aim is to reduce the use of toxic mosquito repellant and use lavender instead for a better environment.
This evidence is unique for me because it isn’t a test or a forced project that a teacher assigns a specific task. We are only asked to make either a presentation or a lab project related to the environment. This project is not graded but we enjoy creating it. It is a different atmosphere of project for the national students, because we don’t usually ask to make presentation.
By being aware of the environment and encouraging others to make a difference is something I learnt during this process. It helps me think of alternative ways to preserve the earth’s environment better. By doing this project, I am more aware of the environment and my brain is more train to think various ways to avoid using toxic that is not helping in making the earth’s environment better.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
My personal interest is somehow related to the use of computer technology. My interest is related to graphic designing. I really love to design pictures and manipulate photos using the computer technology. The technology I am using is Adobe Photoshop. This started when my cousin, and expert in IT was using this program. I get really interested and asked him to install it to my PC so I can learn more about this program. I become used to this program and learn about it so much more that I am advance in this program. Works that I have done using this program are posters that I made for a restaurant. The manager asked me to make a poster of the restaurant’s special menu and announcement of live music available at the restaurant. This is a community involvement because I didn’t ask any payment for it. I use Adobe Photoshop CS and create the design based on the features available in that program.
I learn this program by doing trial and error and try clicking icons. I tried to understand the use of each icon and what difference does it makes to the design. I bought books about it and research information from the internet. Sometimes I also asked my peers about this program and asked them to teach me any new techniques that I don’t know yet. I enjoy learning this program because it allows me to transfer my creativity into a visual media. I could definitely apply this skill to make other media that doesn’t always have to be posters or flyers. Using Adobe program there are other application such as making movie or mixing songs using the same company. I also tried to learn those other programs, but not as advance as Photoshop. And I prefer Adobe Photoshop.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

The national students are also required to do a CAS project for 50 hours in a year. For my project I decided to do something for this upcoming Christmas Event. My group project had this idea of distributing parcels to the school’s staff during the school’s Christmas celebration. We’ve calculated the total numbers of staff, and the result is that the school has a total number of 55 staffs. So, I and my group members design the parcels and decided what food and drink are going to be included in the parcel. The money to buy the products we borrow it from one of the member’s parents. At the end we decided to buy the cookies, food and drink from Makro store because it is proven that this store is cheaper than any other store.
We did a 4 hour shopping of the list needed to be included in the parcels. We bought a set of 60 parcels; we decided to make it more than we planned to avoid loss of parcel or if any damage is done to one of the parcels we have a spare. Once a week we gather at Tia’s house at Sentul and did our parcels there. We arrange the design by ourselves, and wrap 60 parcels by ourselves. It was really hard work but we were really enjoyed it because I get the chance to gather with my friends while doing the work. The goal is to finish 60 parcels before December so at the day of the celebration the parcels are ready to be distributed to the staffs. The student council has already added part of their program to spend an hour or so for the parcel distributing, so the whole student body can witness the event.
This event is unique because usually the former student council members just bought the parcels and then distribute it by the order of the school. But this project is volunteered by my group project and it is unique because we design and choose the list of food and did the shopping by ourselves. It is also a unique contribution to the staff as a sign of appreciation and thank for keeping our school run as smoothly as it is. In this experienced, I learn that making parcel is really hard work and now I really appreciate the people who makes parcel to earn money for their life, because it is really hard work and complicated. I also learned that we should appreciate the people around us more because without them we cannot be as we are now. I really appreciate the staff in school because they had helped the students to concentrate more in school by keeping the school clean and organized.

VISUAL AND FINE ARTS This year I attended a very huge celebration held by the Javanese monarchy. This event is special because it is a once in a 250 years celebration, which means a once in a lifetime opportunity of a celebration. Mangkunegaran is the name of one of the biggest monarchy in Java. People who are invited are people that have either blood relation to the monarchy or really close family. My grandmother is part of the family so I am also invited to attend this once in a lifetime opportunity event. It is a three days celebration, but I only attend the last day, which is the climax of the event. It is held at the monarchy’s palace. The program for that day is traditional dances with musical drama. The event was really extravagance; there were about 300 dancers involved in the event at that day. There were musical dramas combined with traditional dances. They were using horses and elephants. There is also a part of the play that I really liked, which is at a fighting-dancing scene on water. From far, it looks like they were walking on water, but it turns out there were a glass beneath it so it looks like they were walking on top of the water’s surface. There were also very old traditional dances, and the dancers were also old. I think by experiencing this event the artists have one goal, to bring back the memories of the monarchy. Part of the dances and dramas are about the previous kings of Mangkunegaran. There are different dramas and different dances, which explains the different life of the kings. The traditional dance and musical performances also remind us to the traditional Javanese arts. There was Wayang performance which brings back the old culture so they are not lost. I think it is important for our countries to keep up these kinds of events to prevent culture lost. I really like the overall performance, and it ended with release of balloons. I and my cousins were really busy taking pictures of ourselves during that night. We were using traditional Javanese costumes, and we really enjoyed the night because we are able to take picture with the king and participate a once in a lifetime event.

PERSONAL INTEREST




Even though I am not a creative person, my personal interest is to do graphic designs. I really like the program Adobe Photoshop and edit photos using this program. I learnt this program by myself and now I am kinda expert at it. I like to do photo editing so much because I can express my emotions through my art work. I also like to design posters and flyers. I’ve create some posters that are posted in a restaurant. The manager asked me to create a poster to promote their new menu. The result is satisfactory and I think he likes it.
I also like photography but not talented at it. I think I am better in editing photos better. Sometimes my art work’s result is unique and original if I am in a very emotive mood. My signature art work is dark and has lots of blood. Sometimes I like to make it sadistic, but sometimes I can also make an artwork very heavenly and pretty. Either way my art work really depends on my mood. If I am in love, I could make my pictures very warmth and calming with lots of loving quotes, if I am in a bad mood I make my pictures very sadistic with lots of blood. But I am very flexible with my designs.
The skills need for this hobby is the skill of technology to use the program, art, creativity and communication. These are the things needed to be able to create a good, communicative picture. I also need to be highly inspired to be able to create an emotive picture so people can understand the message that is given in the picture. It is important to have good taste of art and uniqueness, because this determines the originality of the art work.

By having this hobby I feel that I appreciate life more because I am able to express my emotions through my art work. I feel that it is important that we find a way that we like to express our emotions. I also appreciate life more because now I can see things more differently by looking things at their originality, for example, I used to not really appreciate posters and flyers, but now I can see that every posters has their own uniqueness. This really improve how I see art works in my surroundings.

EDUCATION AND VOCATION

Recently I don’t know why I am very attracted in books. A friend of mine suggests a good book and from there I started to almost buy a new book each week. I realized that I am attracted to books that talk most about metaphor in life. I am a person who really likes to learn about how the world works, one of the ideas that I am interested recently is about people’s perspective to life. This action is educational because I am educating myself by reading books.
I have changed the way I see things in life because I had read books that influenced my mind to see the world in different ways. The books that I read, for example, Veronika Decides to Die and The Alchemist talks about a certain perspective of life. These books use metaphor structure for the writing style. I realize that by reading books I could also improve my writing and reading skills, because I learnt new writing style, new literatures, and new vocabularies.
So far I’ve read books about leadership and thinking techniques, books such as 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and Blink. These kinds of book help me improved my knowledge about the way human mind works in making decisions. I decided to keep on reading books, learn it and apply it into my life. Steps that I want to take to build on more knowledge is to read many types of books, not only novels but also educational books, books about histories, health, religions, designs and others.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Once a year, the Muslims are given a chance to fast for one month. I personally think this is related to my personal health awareness. By allowing my digestive system to rest from eating, helps my body to recover from sickness because the type of food entered to the body is selected carefully. I think that this activity I am doing for a month helps my body from eating unnecessary food. After I think about it, I survived fasting for more than 6 hours; this proves that the excessive eating not in the Ramadhan month is not really necessary. This month’s purpose is for us to eat what we need, just as enough for the body, and refrain eating what we want that isn’t always necessary.
This practiced my mind and soul to not become too attached to the worldliness. This is good for me because it helps both my body and my mind. When it is time to break the fast, I remind myself to eating healthy food and abstain from junk food. I lost a few kilograms and felt better because I am removing the unnecessary fat in my body. In my daily diet, now change the way I eat, my portion of rice is usually half the size of my plate. But now I only eat rice a quarter of the size of my plate, vegetables for half the size of my plate and the rest is for others. This helps my physical health because I realized that it is unnecessary to eat too much carbohydrate and should focus more on protein and vegetables.
Usually my work our schedule is once in 2 days. After school I do treadmill for 30 minutes, then do some weightlifting and sit ups. Sometimes I am lazy to follow this schedule but I had to push myself because it gave lots of advantage to my body. The result of my work is my body become fit and I stayed fresher, if I skip exercising, I feel lazy and sometimes dizzy because the blood flows does not flows as fast when I exercise.

#1 Subject: Mathematics

The assessment that I want to talk about is my first math test in grade 11. The topic that is being tested on is about statistics which test our ability to tell the difference between statistics vocabulary such as mean, median, and mode. It also tested our ability to calculate from a set of data. There were also questions that allow us to create a graph based on the set of data given in the test. Our class spent about two weeks studying this topic. This test requires the understanding of the statistics terminology and analyzing set of data.
This piece of evidence is the first math test I had in year 11, the result of the test is 10 out of 10. This is why this piece of evidence is important to me because it shows my ability in math. In year 11, I chose the national program, IPA which requires lots of logical and mathematical skills. The way of teaching and the teacher is different from MYP. I personally think this piece of evidence is different because it shows that I can still do well in math, even though the curriculum and the teacher has changed. Either because it doesn’t affect me or I can relate well with the new teacher’s teaching method.
By this piece of evidence, it proves that I am doing well in logical and mathematical skill. By having a perfect score on this test, it encourages me to do well in the next test. When the next test is coming, I study hard and seriously to be able to achieve another high score. It proves by having this kind of encouragement, I am able to achieve high score in the further tests. Maybe I do well in logical and mathematical skills because I enjoy studying math, and proves that I could get a high score if I really work hard and focus on it.

My name is Ratria Budiendra, I am 16 years old this year. i was born on the 10th of February 1991. I go to Sekolah Pelita Harapan School, where I study the national option program. I chose IPA for the national program. Even though the school provides the diploma program, I refuse the diploma because my goal is to go to universities in Indonesia. The diploma program only gives opportunity for students to continue their studies overseas. I am now in 11th grade, and I am still thinking for what major I want to choose in the future. The school goal for grade 11th and 12th is to concentrate on the national exam at the end of grade 12th. I personally think I am now doing well in my school. Even though I don’t get very high grades for each subject, I think my grades are satisfactory and well acceptable. My goal is to pass the national exam with an acceptable grade. My ways to achieve that goal is to concentrate in school and not underestimate the national program.
I have interest in many kinds of subjects. I am curious and want to know how the world works and why. I personally have hobby and interest in designs, specifically graphic design. I like to fill my spare time by editing photos using Adobe Photoshop. Many of my friends talked to me and often compliments my art works. My family thinks that I am talented in subjects related to calculations, logical, and critical thinking. I personally have set 3-4 majors that I am now interested to study. The majors are graphic design, mechanical, studies of industries, and accounting.
My physical characteristic is not so short and not so tall either. I've lost 5 kg in this past 2 month because of the fasting month yiha! but i love my body the way it is. i like to spent my time exercising, such as treadmill, weight lifting and others. i like to spent my time mostly talking with the people that i love, my friends and my family. i am a very friendly even to strangers, i even like to say hi to people i don't know, don't know why. i also like to spent my time praying and communicating to God. some people says that i am religious. i like to spent my time and think about God because it comforts me. i am the last child, i have two sisters. my family's environment is warmth and everyday we like to spent our time together talking about God at dinner time.
I personally think my strength is when I deal with problem. I’ve grown a lot in the past 2 years. When I met a problem, I usually get emotional and confused. Sometimes I could get angry or overly sad if I can’t solve the problem. But now I’ve improve my attitude and become more patient in dealing with problems. Before I make any conclusion, I now analyze my problem to the core until I find a solution to it. I realize that I can’t solve every problem I have. When I am unable to find solution, I would give my worries and troubles to God. This is another strength I have because I don’t get depress because of my problems, instead I am more positive because I learn from my mistake. i like to talk about God even to my friends, maybe this is my strength because the more i relate my problems to God the more i become patient in dealing with problems.
My weakness is to easily trust other people. Even though it seems that it is fine to trust many people, it is sometimes a disadvantage for me because people would take advantage. Sometimes when I trust people too easily, I become hurt at the end and could hold a grudge, but I am now working on it. Now I still easily trust others but I don’t hold grudge and instead I just forgive if I’ve been hurt by them.
“There’s a reason why the past doesn’t make it to my future,” I saw this quote somewhere on a book that I don’t remember. I chose this quote because I learn that I can’t be stuck in the past and I do have to move on and make a new path of my life.
